Dear Gospella,
My minister often talks about evangelism and reminds us that our job as Christians is to “spread
the good news” and “share the gospel message.” I agree in theory, but I find this very difficult to
practice in reality. To be honest, it’s uncomfortable talking about my faith with people I know, and I
really don’t want to go around town knocking on doors. Isn’t it enough to simply show my faith by the
example I set?

N.O. Knock
Dear Mr. Knock,
Yes, it’s true that Christians are called to fulfill Christ’s great commission as found in Matthew
28: 16-20. Evangelism is not something that comes naturally or easy for many people, but you raise
an important question. We do need to show our faith by the example we set, but if that’s ALL we do
how will anyone know why we choose to live the way we do? We need to “shine our light” in the world
and we also need to let people know the light comes from our relationship with Jesus Christ—the
Light of the World. Because it’s so difficult to know how to go about evangelism, I’d like to
introduce you to my sister Eve Angel. She will be writing a column in this newsletter from time to
time to help us with evangelism. In the meantime while you “walk the walk” don’t forget to also “talk
the talk.” Love, Gospella
